Creme Brulee French Toast Casserole 🍞✨

Ingredients:

For the Casserole:

1 loaf French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
8 large eggs
2 cups whole milk
1 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt

For the Topping:

1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and diced
1 cup light brown sugar, packed
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Directions:

1️⃣ Prep Casserole: Start by greasing a 9x13 inch baking dish. Spread the bread cubes evenly across the bottom of the dish, creating a uniform layer.

2️⃣ Mix Custard: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, both sugars, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined. Pour this custard mixture over the bread cubes, making sure each piece is soaked. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight to allow the bread to absorb the custard.

3️⃣ Preheat Oven: When ready to bake, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C), setting the stage for a golden and delicious casserole.

4️⃣ Prepare Topping: In a small bowl, combine the light brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and diced butter. Use your fingers or a fork to mix until the mixture is crumbly. Evenly sprinkle this topping over the soaked bread in the casserole dish.

5️⃣ Bake: Place the casserole in the oven and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crisp to the touch.

6️⃣ Serve: Allow the casserole to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm, with a dusting of powdered sugar or a drizzle of maple syrup if desired.
